Happy New Year from all of us at Holmes & Davidson Opticians!
We hope you’ve had a wonderful start to 2025. January has brought us a true winter wonderland with blankets of snow and frosty mornings that look like something out of a holiday card. But while the scenery is breathtaking, w
inter weather can also pose a unique set of challenges for your eyes.

Winter Woes for Your Eyes
The cold weather and central heating can lead to dry, irritated eyes. Combine that with the glare of sunlight reflecting off the snow, and your vision can feel the strain. Make sure to use a good quality artificial tear drop if your eyes feel dry, and don’t forget to wear sunglasses on those bright snowy days—yes, even in winter! Polarized lenses are an excellent choice to reduce glare and protect your eyes from harmful UV rays.
A Frosty Fiasco
Speaking of glare, we couldn’t resist sharing a funny little story that happened right outside our practice last week. One of our staff members, bundled up and armed with their favorite hot coffee, stepped outside only to be blinded by the intense reflection of sunlight bouncing off a delivery van—and the next thing we knew, the coffee was airborne! Luckily, the only casualty was the coffee, and it was a good reminder for all of us to grab our sunglasses before venturing out on bright snowy days. Lesson learned: never underestimate winter sunshine (and maybe invest in a spill-proof travel mug!).
